My Christmas in Germany When you plan on doing an EVS you will hear this question a lot of times. ''Where are you going to celebrate Christmas? At home or in your EVS country?'' I thought this question was clear to me. I planed to stay in Bulgaria for Christmas and celebrate it like Bulgarians do. The closer the date of Christmas was the more of my friends started posting pictures of them with the same caption '' Coming home for Christmas''. I thought I had a stronger opinion, but now I am writing about my Christmas in Germany. I made a chronological order of this day. My brother and me we went into the city to have a breakfast brunch with my family. It was great to see everybody again. We spent probably more time talking about anything than eating from the big buffet. We were discussing the latest news, gossiping a little bit and wishing everybody a happy Christmas. The toughest part for me was to explain them what I am doing here in Bulgaria. The term Social Media Manager is not self-explaining for everybody. So I spent about half an hour tossing words like Internet, Social Media and Content around. At the end everybody seems to have understood and was interested even more in my work. I had a great time in the morning. Spending time with my family and talking with them was a wonderful time. After this we split up. They went to the church and I went to my last volunteer job. After graduating High School in 2016 I decided to do an volunteer service in an shelter for homeless people in my home town. In total I spent there 13 months. For me it was one of the best dissicions of my life and I do not want to miss it, also I would recommend it to everybody. During my service and also after finishing I still got along really good with all of them. Last year I spent my Christmas in this house and therefore I knew that it is a special time. Most of the people there are left alone by there families, when they became homeless. Or they simply do not have any members of there families left. Again I would recommend to anybody to spent some time on such special days with people, who are in need. I enjoyed my stay a lot. For the evening I had to get home and prepare the dinner for Christmas. This year it was my turn to cook for everybody. The days before I bought deer meat at the butcher. The deer was shoot close to my house, which is maybe a bit morbid. I also bought red cabbage and made noodles myself. To be honest I never cooked something that big and important. It took me nearly 3 hours to prepare everything. In the end I was genuinely surprised that everything worked out as planed. My family was happy about the dinner and we spent some time to eat everything, but it was sheer impossible. Then we proceded in our tradition. As every year I read out the Christmas story from the bible. We sang some typical songs for this day. After all of this we gave each other presents. The rest of the night we spent playing board games and talking about anything we wanted to. So far every Christmas has been different to me. We never have the same rules or traditions. What I do on this day constantly changes. Non the less it is always a special day for me and probably most of the people I know. I like to celebrate this day by making other people happy.
